Sipho Mabuse is a singer from South Africa. Mabuse was raised in Soweto. Sipho Mabuse’s father was Tswana, while his mother was Zulu. Solly Nkuta used to handle Sipho and his band. Mabuse got his start in the Afro-soul group the Beaters in the mid-1970s after dropping out of school in the 1960s.
After a successful tour of Zimbabwe, they renamed the band Harari, an afro soul band led by Mabuse. When they returned to South Africa, they began to rely almost entirely on American-style funk, soul, and pop music, sung in Zulu and Sotho as well as English. Sipho Mabuse has also recorded and produced for Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, Ray Phiri, and Sibongile Khumalo, to name a few.
