The Princess of Africa, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, is a remarkable singer and actress, as well as a philanthropist and teacher. She has shared the stage with international superstars such as Bono, Annie Lennox, and even the Queen. Yvonne Chaka Chaka is the Roll Back Malaria Partnership’s Goodwill Ambassador.
Yvonne Chaka Chaka did not have a happy childhood, but when Benard Jofi arrived in Soweto in 1981 to scout gifted children – those who could read, play instruments, and act, among other things – she was one among the children who stood out.
This opportunity led Yvonne to the television show Sugar Shack, where she earned R500 and became South Africa’s first black child on television.
