Zolani Mkiva is a youthful practitioner of one of Africa’s oldest oral traditions, Ukubonga (praise singing). Zolani rose to prominence in 1990, less than a year after becoming a fully-fledged Imbongi Yesizwe (Poet of the Nation), when the schoolboy was called upon to salute the recently released Nelson Mandela at his Welcome Home Rally in Transkei.
