Full Biography
Steve Biko was born on December 18, 1946, in Tilden, the third child of the late Mathew Mzingaye and Alice Nokuzola “Mamcethe” Biko. Steve Biko went to primary school in King William’s Town and secondary school at Marianhill, a missionary school in the same-named town in KwaZulu Natal which his father (Mzingayi Mathew Biko) play a very role in is his.
In 1966, Steve Biko enrolled in the Black Section of the Medical School at the University of Natal. Biko demonstrated a broad hunger for knowledge that transcended the realm of the medical profession early in his academic program, resulting in his being one of the most notable student leaders. Steve Biko and his colleagues created the South African Students’ Organization (SASO) in 1968.
