Full Biography

Steve Biko is the son of Mathew Mzingaye and Alice Nokuzola Biko. Steve Biko’s father was a police officer before becoming a government clerk. He passed away in 1950 while pursuing a law degree at the University of South Africa. Biko was only four years old. Biko’s mother, Alice, who worked as a domestic servant at Grey Hospital in King William’s Town, was the key influence on his life from an early age.
