Sally Maunye is the wife of a notable South African businessman, physician, and anti-apartheid activist Nthato Harrison Motlana.

Nthato Harrison Motlana got politically active in Fort Hare when he joined the African National Congress Youth League and eventually became its secretary. During the 1951-52 Defiance Campaign, he was tried with Nelson Mandela by the Apartheid regime.
Nthato Harrison Motlana was a member of the Black Community Programme and the Black Parents’ Association during the Soweto uprising, which resulted in his and his wife Sally Maunye being detained, and after the Soweto Urban Bantu Council collapsed, he became a member of the Soweto Committee of Ten in June 1977.
