Oscar Pistorius’s Siblings: Meet Carl Pistorius

Both non-disabled and below-the-knee amputee sprint competitions were open to Pistorius. He was the tenth athlete to participate in both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Due to a congenital defect, he was born lacking the outside of both feet and both fibulae. He had to have both of his feet amputated when he was just 11 months old.

Full Biography

Pistorius attempted to compete in international tournaments available to athletes without impairments after winning the Paralympic gold medal, but the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) vehemently objected, claiming that his prosthetic limbs gave him an unfair advantage. In this legal dispute, Pistorius won.

Pistorius made history at the 2011 World Athletics Championships by becoming the first amputee to win a non-disabled world track medal. In 2012, Pistorius was the first person with two amputees to compete in the Olympics.

Carl Pistorius was born on November 22, 1986, in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa’s Transvaal Province to Theodore Leonard Henke and Sheila Pistorius (now Gauteng Province). He was brought up in a Christian home and has an older brother named Carl and a younger sister named Aimée.

According to Pistorius, his mother, who passed away at the age of 43, had a big influence on his life when he was 15 years old.
