Pistorius was eligible for both non-disabled and below-the-knee amputee sprint contests. His participation in both the Olympic and Paralympic Games made him the tenth athlete to do so.
He was born without the outside of both feet and both fibulae due to a congenital abnormality. Since he was only 11 months old, he needed both of his feet amputated.
