Samson Mtukudzi was born on April 1, 1988, and died on March 15, 2010. Sam Mtukudzi is a Zimbabwean musician. He was the son of the late singer Oliver Mtukudzi.
Samson Mtukudzi and his sound engineer, Owen Chimhare, were killed in a car crash near Harare in the early hours of Monday, March 15, 2010. Chimhare’s Tata pickup truck crashed into a bridge just before the Kuwadzana Extension off-ramp on the Harare-Norton road. The vehicle went off the road, smashed into the right side of the bridge’s guard rails, and plunged into the river bank below. Inspector Tigere Chigome, a spokesman for the National Traffic Police, stated in the news that the accident occurred at 1:20 a.m. Both Mtukudzi and Chimhare died at the scene from head injuries.

Samson Mtukudzi joined his father on tours after graduating from high school, playing saxophone and guitar. Samson Mtukudzi formed his own jazz-influenced band, Ay Band, in Harare, with whom he recorded his debut album, Rume Rimwe, in 2008. Samson Mtukudzi had also released two solo albums. In late 2009, the elder Mtukudzi introduced Sam as “the future” to appreciative crowds at a British nightclub.
