Nthato Motlana was a businessman, physician, and anti-apartheid activist from South Africa. When he was in Fort Hare, Nthato Motlana joined the African National Congress Youth League and later became its secretary. During the Defiance Campaign of 1951-52, the Apartheid regime tried him alongside Nelson Mandela.
Nthato Motlana was a member of the Black Community Programme and the Black Parents’ Association during the Soweto uprising, which resulted in him and his wife being detained, and after the collapse of the Soweto Urban Bantu Council, Nthato Motlana became a member of the Soweto Committee of Ten in June 1977.
