Mamphela Ramphele is a medical practitioner, politician, anti-apartheid campaigner, academic, and businesswoman from South Africa. She served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Town from 1996 to 2000, and as Managing Director of the World Bank from 2000 to 2004.
Mamphela Ramphele created a political party, Anang SA, in 2013, and announced her intention to run for South Africa’s first female president under the Democratic Alliance (DA) in 2014. However, she left politics the following year.
