Full Biography
Huberte Rupert, who died in Stellenbosch at the age of 85, was best known to those who did not know her as the wife of industrialist Anton Rupert. Johann Rupert mother is Huberte Rupert
Huberte Rupert’s mother married Piet Wessels, a teacher who later became headmaster of Krugersdorp’s Monument High School, where Huberte attended, in 1927. Huberte Rupert was a bright child who finished her first three years of primary school in one year. Huberte Rupert showed an early interest in the arts, performing in operettas and joining the school choir.
After matriculating, she worked as a children’s librarian in Krugersdorp, which helped her get a job in the campus library while studying at the University of Pretoria.
Huberte Rupert met Anton Rupert through their shared involvement in the university’s student representative council. Anton, a postgraduate student in chemical engineering, was elected as the first-year students’ representative.
