Prof Johann continued his education by earning another master’s degree in development economics at the University of Sussex from 1970 to 1971.
Johann Maree began his PhD in Industrial Sociology while lecturing at the University of Cape Town from 1978 to 1986. When he retired in 2008, he was given the title of an Emeritus professor in recognition of his outstanding achievements.
