Graça Machel was born in Mozambique and he is a politician and humanitarian. She is the widow of former Mozambican President Samora Machel (1975-1986) and former South African President Nelson Mandela (1998-2013).
Graça Machel is an international campaigner for women’s and children’s rights, and Queen Elizabeth II appointed her an honorary British Dame in 1997 for her humanitarian activities. Graça Machel is the only woman in modern history to have held the positions of First Lady of both South Africa and Mozambique.
