Fanie Viljoen is a South African children’s book author who lives in Bloemfontein, the birthplace of J.R.R. Tolkien. He has written around 35 books, the majority of which have been published in Afrikaans.
Many of his novels have won literary accolades, including the Sanlam gold prize for juvenile literature, the M.E.R. prize for illustrated children’s books, and other ATKV children’s book awards. Scarred Lions (Leeus met Letsels) in Afrikaans was nominated for the IBBY Honour Roll List 2014. Fanie’s days are spent writing, drawing books, and painting. He enjoys music and going to the gym, but he dislikes being fatigued.
