Faf du Plessis’ IPL career started when MS Dhoni reportedly requested Chennai management buy him in the 2011 super auctions after initially spotting him in the Champions League T20 in 2010. He had a respectable first few seasons after being signed by Chennai in 2011 for a fee of 50 lakhs.
But because Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay were the more seasoned pair, he was forced to bat in the middle order.
