Duane is proud to be Andre and Estelien Vermeulen’s son. Duane’s father’s memory stays in his mind, even though he died almost 24 years ago, and his impact on him is still quite fresh. At one point, he stated that it was his father’s remarks that inspired him to play six seasons of Super Rugby before earning his maiden Springbok cap in 2012. Those remarks from his father have also helped him become one of the best players the world has ever seen.
