After high school, he worked in his family’s store for several years. He also continued to study photography. He decided to become a photographer in the early 1960s.
Goldblatt photographed for companies and magazines, but he also took many images on his own. He published various book collections of his personal work. Some Afrikaners Photographed is one of his most well-known publications. It was initially published in 1975. It was reissued in 2007 as Some Afrikaners Revisited.
