Caster Semenya was born on the 7th of January 1991 in Ga-Masehlong village and raised in Fairlie, deep in the northern Limpopo province. Semenya began running at a young age and her career peaked at a young age.

Caster Semenya made her international debut in 2008, competing in the 800m at the World Junior Championships but failing to make the finals. She did, however, win gold at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games.
