Bishop Ivan M. Abrahams is the World Methodist Council’s fourth General Secretary and the first South African. He took office in 2012, following a period of transition that began with the conclusion of the World Methodist Conference in Durban, South Africa.
Bishop Abrahams was the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa, one of the main Christian groups in Southern Africa, from 2003 to 2012. Throughout his tenure, he provided prophetic leadership and guidance. His crowning achievement was the establishment and effective completion of the Seth Mokitimi Methodist Seminary, a multimillion-rand legacy project.
