Andile Mngxitama was born and raised on the fields of Potchefstroom in the North West Province, the son of a farmworker and a domestic worker.
In 2015, Andile Mngxitama launched Black First Land First (BLF), a pan-Africanist and revolutionary socialist political party in South Africa. This followed his expulsion from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). Andile Mngxitama was an EFF member of parliament after the party gained 25 seats in the 2014 national election. Mngxitama grew dissatisfied with the EFF’s leadership after the party’s first elective conference in December 2014.
