Allan Boesak is a South African theologian and political activist best known for his anti-apartheid activism alongside Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela. On February 23, 1946, Boesak was born in Kakamas, Northern Cape province, near South Africa’s eastern border. Allan Boesak credits his theological pursuits to witnessing his mother’s strong faith in raising him and his seven siblings after their father died in 1952.

At the age of 17, Allan Boesak enrolled at the Dutch Reformed Mission Church Theological Seminary at the University of the Western Cape, and in 1968, Allan Boesak became the youngest ordained pastor in Paarl, a town in the middle of Western Cape province.
