Nkosazana Clarice Dlamini-Zuma is a South African politician, physician, and former anti-apartheid crusader who was born on January 27, 1949. Her initials, NDZ, are widely recognized. She has been a long-standing member of the African National Party (ANC) and is currently the Chancellor of the University of Limpopo as well as the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma was born in the former Natal province and educated there before becoming involved in the Black Consciousness Movement. She lived in exile outside of South Africa between 1976 and 1990, practising medicine and participating in ANC activism.
She has served in every post-apartheid South African president’s cabinet since 1994, including Minister of Health, Foreign Affairs, and Home Affairs. During President Jacob Zuma’s first term, she was credited with turning around a dysfunctional department.
Before taking up her present position, she was Minister in the Presidency for Planning under President Cyril Ramaphosa Monitoring and Evaluation, where she played a major and contentious role in managing South Africa’s lockdown during the COVID-19 epidemic.
She was also absent from the South African government from October 2012 to January 2017, while she was Chairman of the African Union Commission, making her the first woman to command either that organization or its predecessor, the Organization of African Unity.

According to sources, Dlamini-Zuma finished her high school studies at Adams College in Amanzimtoti, a mission school attended by many ANC leaders. She graduated in 1967. Despite intending to be a lawyer and giving in to her father’s desire to become a doctor, she got a BSc in zoology and botany from the University of Zululand in 1971.
She later enrolled at the University of Natal to seek a medical degree. She was actively involved in the South African Students’ Organization, a Black Consciousness movement, while there and was chosen to serve as its vice president in 1976.
