Jane Alexander was born on October 28, 1939, in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of orthopedic physician Thomas Quigley and nurse Ruth Elizabeth Quigley. Jane went to Beaver Country Day School, an all-girls school located just outside of Boston. She had her stage debut as an adolescent in a performance of “Treasure Island” here, where she originally desired to be an actress. Her father encouraged her to attend college before pursuing a career as an actress.
