Mark Shuttleworth was the first African-born person to travel to space. After a year of training in Star City, he flew to the International Space Station as part of the crew of Soyuz mission TM34 (Russia). Mark Shuttleworth founded the company Canonical Ltd.
Mark Shuttleworth is a leader in the Ubuntu operating system as of 2013. Mark Shuttleworth holds dual citizenship in South Africa and the United Kingdom. While studying at the University of Cape Town, he founded Thawte, an Internet commerce security company (Finance and IT). Mark Shuttleworth founded HBD, an investment firm, in 2000. Mark Shuttleworth established the Shuttleworth Foundation to assist leaders in society.
