Full Biography
Tlatlane Ernest Motlanthe is the youngest sibling of former South African President Kgalema Motlanthe. Born in 1960, Tlatlane grew up in the Alexandra township in Johannesburg, South Africa, along with his older brother Kgalema and their sister Nono. Like his siblings, Tlatlane was deeply influenced by the anti-apartheid struggle and the activism of his parents, Louis Mathakoe Motlanthe and Masefako Sophia Madingoane.
Tlatlane Ernest was involved in political activism from an early age, joining the African National Congress (ANC) Youth League while still a teenager.
