Anton Rupert was born on October 4, 1916, and passed away on January 18, 2006. Anton Rupert was a businessman, philanthropist, and conservationist from South Africa.
Anton Rupert was born and raised in the small town of Graaff-Reinet in the Union of South Africa’s Cape Province. Anton Rupert studied in Pretoria before relocating to Stellenbosch, where he founded the Rembrandt Group and where it is still headquartered. At the age of 89, he died in his sleep at his home on Thibault Street in Stellenbosch.
In 2004, Anton Rupert was ranked 28th in the television series Top 100 Great South Africans, trailing only Nelson Mandela.
