Arun Manilal Gandhi had an advantage over the illiterate rural families who worked the neighboring fields because of his education. Arun Manilal Gandhi’s grandpa encouraged him to play with the neighborhood kids after school in order to “learn what it was like to live in poverty” and to teach those kids what he learnt in class each day, which Arun Gandhi later characterized as “the most creative and enlightening experience for me.” Crowds of children and their parents eventually began to gather for lessons with the young Gandhi, who taught him compassion and the importance of sharing.

He publicized his prayers and does not practice Hinduism in the traditional sense.
