Full Biography
Zakes Bantwinu was born in the South African town of KwaMashu to Jeffrey Khanyile (father) and Nomthandazo Madida (mother).
Zakes also attended the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, where he earned a diploma in jazz and music performance before enrolling in the Gordon Institute of Business Science at the University of Pretoria.
Although Zakes Bantwinu had been making music for a long time, he rose to prominence with the release of ‘Clap Your Hands,’ which featured Xolani Sithole and has since been consistent throughout his career, winning numerous awards and accolades.
Zakes Bantwini’s father died on February 4, 2023, at the age of 65, and he (Zakes) and his mother, Jeffrey’s wife, paid tribute to him.
