Blade Nzimande, the son of South African politician Nozipho Alice, is a sociologist, philosopher, educator, anti-apartheid campaigner, and Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. In 1982, Nzimande began his internship in Industrial Psychology at Tongaat Hulett Sugar Ltd’s people department. He met Jay Naidoo there and began working with unions informally, addressing union seminars on job grading and other issues. He resigned from his position in 1984.
Nzimande slammed President Zuma in June 2017, calling his latest Cabinet change an abuse of power and continuing calls for his resignation. President Zuma replaced Nzimande as Minister of Higher Education and Training with Hlengiwe Mkhize in an October cabinet reshuffle.
