Magirlie Koape’s sibling is Tokyo Sexwale, he is a businessman, politician, anti-apartheid campaigner, and former political prisoner from South Africa. Sexwale, like Nelson Mandela, was imprisoned on Robben Island for his anti-apartheid actions. After the 1994 general election, South Africa’s first truly democratic election, Sexwale was elected Premier of Gauteng Province. From 2009 to 2013, he served as South Africa’s Minister of Human Settlements.
On January 7, 2007, The Sunday Times claimed that Sexwale was pushing for a senior post within the ANC, which would have put him in line to succeed Thabo Mbeki as President of South Africa in 2009. On BBC’s Hard Talk, Sexwale confessed that if the ANC structures requested him to run for party president, he would seriously consider it.
