Tokyo Sexwale, Lesetja’s brother, is a South African businessman, politician, anti-apartheid campaigner, and former political prisoner. Sexwale, like Nelson Mandela, was imprisoned on Robben Island for his anti-apartheid activities. Following the 1994 general election, South Africa’s first really democratic election, Sexwale was elected Premier of Gauteng Province. He served as South Africa’s Minister of Human Settlements from 2009 to 2013.
Sexwale has significant mining holdings through his Mvelaphanda Group. He is now exploring a plan to invest in mining interests in Guinea with the Kazakh-owned Eurasian National Resources Corporation. A negotiation team is secretly arranging the financing of a local mining business to be owned by the Guinean government.
