Karl Lofgren is Esther Lofgren’s father. Esther’s parents, Karl and Christine Lofgren, met in the MIT boathouse and traveled to Long Beach, California in the early 1980s to train for the Olympic rowing squad that would compete in the Los Angeles Olympic Games. Esther’s parents both fell just short of their goals, with her mother being the last lady cut from the Olympic quadruple sculls team that went on to win gold but instead chose to create a family. Esther Ruth Lofgren was born the following year.
