Full Biography
South African economist and political pundit Moeletsi Mbeki. He is Thabo Mbeki’s sibling. Thabo Mbeki presided over South Africa from 1999 to 2008.
Moeletsi Goduka Mbeki, a political economist from South Africa, was born on November 30, 1945. He serves as the deputy chairman of the South African Institute of International Affairs, a nonpartisan think tank based at the University of the Witwatersrand, as well as Nedcor Bank as a political analyst. He is a representative on the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS’) executive council, which has its headquarters in London. He is the son of ANC chief Govan Mbeki and the younger brother of former president Thabo Mbeki. He has frequently criticized President Mbeki in the past.
Africa-focused economist and politician Moeletsi Mbeki have established a reputation as a thought-provoking speaker on a variety of political and economic topics. He is the author of several publications, including “Africa: The Politics of Suffering and Smiling” and “Architects of Poverty: Why African Capitalism Needs a Rethink.” In these volumes, he offers a critique of the political and economic structures in Africa as well as recommendations for how to deal with the problems the continent is currently facing.
At conferences and other gatherings, Moeletsi Mbeki frequently speaks and shares his perspectives on the political and economic climate in Africa.

Nationality & Ethnicity
Moeletsi Mbeki is a citizen of South Africa and a member of the Xhosa people. One of South Africa’s largest ethnic groupings, the Xhosa are renowned for their extensive cultural heritage.
Education
He worked as a senior journalist for Zimbabwe Newspapers in Harare throughout the majority of the 1980s. He received a Nieman Fellowship from Harvard University for the academic years 1988–1989 as a consequence of the excellent work he accomplished for the Zimbabwe Newspapers Features Department.
Mbeki started his media career in London in 1979 as a writer for the BBC Africa Service, the periodicals Africa, New African, and Africa Now.
He completed his studies in sociology, building, and management in England, earning his MA in sociology from the University of Warwick in 1982. In the 1970s, he worked in Tanzania and the United Kingdom’s building industries.

Govan Mbeki and Epainette Mbeki are the parents of Moeletsi. Epainette ran a store and was a farmer, whereas Govan was a prominent ANC member. Goduka was raised in South Africa in a household of four that also included Jama Mbeki, his brother Thabo Mbeki, and his sister Linda Mbeki.
