Pieter Stephanus du Toit, better known as Piet ‘Spiere’ du Toit, was a South African rugby international who played prop. His relatively small stature and lightweight for a prop belied his strength as a scrummager, hence his nickname.

Pieter Stephanus du Toit, also known as Piet “Spiere” du Toit, was a South African national rugby team prop. His small stature and lightweight for a prop belied his strength as a scrummager, earning him the nickname. He was born on 9th October 1935 and died on 26th February 1996.
Piet du Toit made his senior provincial debut for Western Province in 1956 and toured with the Springboks in New Zealand and Australia in 1956. He made his Test debut in 1958 against France and was later selected for a series of four matches against the All Blacks. In 1960-61, he was selected for five games and participated in victories against Ireland, England, Scotland, and Australia.
