Wayne van Niekerk and sprinter Odessa Swarts had a son named Wayde. He required a blood transfusion because he was delivered too soon.
The impressive career of Odessa Krause began at Ned Doman High School in Athlone. In Scottsville High in Kraaifontein, Cape Town, she finished her education.
Odessa lit up Athlone Stadium during the sporting isolation with her 100- and 200-meter runs. On the grass track, she crushed South Easter of Cape Town to set new provincial records in the 100 and 200 meters.
Odessa Swarts was a star athlete in her heyday, but apartheid in her native South Africa prevented her from participating on the largest stage in track and field.
