Oscar Pistorius’s Siblings: Meet Aimée Pistorius

Both non-disabled and below-the-knee amputee sprint competitions were open to Pistorius. He was the tenth athlete to participate in both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Due to a congenital defect, he was born lacking the outside of both feet and both fibulae. He had to have both of his feet amputated when he was just 11 months old.

Full Biography

After taking home the Paralympic gold medal, Pistorius attempted to participate in international competitions open to athletes without disabilities, but the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) angrily opposed, saying that his prosthetic limbs gave him an unfair advantage. Pistorius prevailed in this judicial dispute.

At the 2011 World Championships in Athletics, Pistorius made history by becoming the first amputee to bring home a non-disabled world track medal. Pistorius was the first double amputee to compete in the Olympics in 2012.

Theodore Leonard Henke and Sheila Pistorius are the  parents of Carl Pistorius on November 22, 1986 in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa’s Transvaal Province (now Gauteng Province). He has an older brother named Carl and a younger sister named Aimée, and he was raised in a Christian environment. When Pistorius was 15 years old, his mother, who passed away at the age of 43, had a significant impact on his life, according to Pistorius.
