Susan de Klerk was born on December 7, 1956, in Johannesburg, South Africa. She grew up in a politically active family, with her father serving as the Minister of Mines under Prime Minister Balthazar Johannes Vorster and later becoming the State President of South Africa.
Susan de Klerk studied music and became an accomplished classical pianist. She pursued her studies at the University of Stellenbosch and later at the Royal College of Music in London, where she earned a master’s degree in performance.
In the 1980s, Susan de Klerk moved to the United States with her husband, Dave Williams, who was also a classical musician. They settled in Atlanta, Georgia, where they both pursued careers as performers and music teachers.
During her time in the United States, Susan de Klerk also became involved in various humanitarian and charitable initiatives. She served on the board of directors for several organizations, including the Atlanta Music Project, which provides music education to underprivileged youth, and the Atlanta Women’s Foundation, which supports women’s issues and advocacy.
Susan de Klerk and her husband had two children together, a son and a daughter. Sadly, Susan de Klerk passed away on December 6, 2019, at the age of 62, after a long battle with breast cancer.
