Anthony James Leon, often shortened to Tony Leon, is a South African politician who was born on 15 December 1956. He has had a long and distinguished career in politics, serving as leader of the opposition from 1999 to 2007, as leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA).

At the age of 18, Leon joined the Progressive Party as an organizer. He later earned his law degree from the University of the Witwatersrand. The two greatest influences on him are Harry and Helen. He was chosen to represent Yeoville on the Johannesburg City Council in 1974, however; They pronounced him the victor when the votes were announced.

According to sources, Tony had a large part to play in the establishment of the DA, and was its first leader, a post he held until his retirement in 2007. Prior to his leadership of the DA, Tony Leon had also held the position of leader of the Democratic Party since 1994. His tenure as leader of the official opposition in parliament has been the longest of any leader since the advent of democracy in the country in 1994, a feat that speaks to his dedication and political acumen.
